The Opportunity

Unique opportunity to join our interdisciplinary team of hard- and software engineers, structural biologists, biochemists, and industry drug discovery experts. This role is critical to establishing transformative application routines for our customers, to prepare demos and training on the cryoWriter and ensure good cooperation with our research customers.


You will work at the head office and lab of cryoWrite (Rosental Mitte, Basel).


Your Mission

Drive Application Development & be the Scientific Contact to our existing and future customers.


We are seeking a highly committed and experimentally skilled research associate to be the technical and scientific interface between our cryoWriter and high-value industrial & academic research.


You will:

  • Application: Apply and demonstrate the commercial potential of our robotic platform within a demanding industrial and academic research environment.

  • Demos: conceptualize, organize and perform demos of the cryoWriter for potential customers and research partners, in person and virtually.

  • Training: constantly develop our product training for potential or new customers and their teams.

  • Scientific Exchange: Collaborate closely with external partners to refine protocols and tackle cutting-edge research questions and practical applications.


Key Impact & Responsibilities

  • Platform Mastery: Become an expert in operating and developing workflows on the cryoWriter.

  • Protocol Publication: Establish robust, publishable protocols for isolating and representing protein or other molecule complexes for structure determination with electron microscopy.

  • Structural Analysis: Operate and gain hands-on experience with cryogenic electron microscopes and learn novel, cutting-edge analytical methods.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Actively exchange data and insights with internal engineering/software teams and external customer teams to inform product development and project strategy.


Your Profile

A proactive, self-driven and technology-affine researcher who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced Start-Up/Scale-Up environment.


  • Master's degree or higher in Nanoscience, Physics, Structural Biology, Biochemistry, or related

  • Demonstrated experience in structural biology, ideally with protein purification and standard biophysical methods established in biochemistry.

  • Practical experience in cryo-EM sample preparation, its challenges and operating or analyzing data from cryo-EM.

  • Ability to adapt protocols, run automated routines, and communicate effectively with software/engineering teams.

  • A strong desire to transform cutting-edge research methods into tangible, systematic application routines.

  • Proven ability to drive your own project independently while actively participating in a high-stakes collaborative research environment.

  • Very good communication and presentation skills for demos and training.

  • Basic scripting or data-handling skills (e.g., Python, Jupyter, command line) are a significant plus.

  • Enjoy working in a Start-Up setting with a cutting-edge technology and share an exiting journey to achieve goals together.

  • Fluent English (oral, written), German a plus
